See Coronavirus Updates & Resources here. -- About the Block Plan Instead of taking multiple classes at a time, CC students study one class at a time , for three-and-a-half weeks. 8 Blocks Per Academic Year 3 1/2 Weeks Per Block 4 1/2 Day Block Break Explore the Block Plan Featured Courses Mathematics & Computer Science CP365 – Artificial Intelligence In CP365, we study the machine learning algorithms that power modern artificial intelligence applications. We will consider the theoretical foundations of these algorithms and implement our own versions running them on several commercial and scientific datasets. Major projects include a movie recommendation system. History HY110 – Encountering the Past: Sorcery, Magic, and Devilry: The History of Witchcraft What is a witch? How is magic defined? Who draws the lines between magic and religion? By examining case studies such as the European witch craze and the Salem witch trials, we will grapple with the myriad ways that witchcraft reveals patterns of belief, structures of power, and social relations in different times and places. Non-Departmental Studies GS233 – Investigative Reporting and Public Service Journalism Students will learn how best to identify, cultivate, and work with human sources to illuminate untold stories and learn the ethics of how to do it responsibly and why doing such work is vital to democracy. The class involves a high-pressure reporting simulation with a Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter. English EN380 – War and its Afterlives in Asian American Family Stories EN380 studies the effects of war and its legacies in family relationships, focusing on the “Asian American family” in the US. The Asian American population growth has been a direct result of war and militarism in Asia over the 20th century, yet their voices underrepresented in war literature.
